The Rossoneri are keen on Chelsea's Spanish attacker as the Italian side go in search of a Mario Balotelli replacement

With the clock ticking on the summer transfer window, Filippo Inzaghi is in a frantic search for a quality striker after selling Italian attacker Mario Balotelli to English Premier League side Liverpool on a £16m transfer.

The Azzurri superstar moved to San Siro in January 2013, and instantly became a fan favorite with the Rossoneri fans, scoring 34 goals in 50 appearances, but has moved to Anfield in search of pastures new.

AC Milan have constantly been linked with a move for misfiring Chelsea striker Fernando Torres, who's torrid time at Stamford Bridge appears near it's climax due to the arrival of fellow Spaniard Diego Costa.

Torres, who signed from Liverpool for a staggering £50m fee back in January 2011, has only managed 20 goals in 110 appearances in England's top-flight for his current employers

And now, vice-president Adriano Galliani went on official record and admitted to the club's interest in the former Reds superstar, claiming to have written to the Blues and are "optimistic" over the London side's response on the player's availability.

AC Milan wish to bring the 30-year-old La Furia Roja attacker to Italy on a season-long loan before the window shuts close on September 2.

“This is our main aim. Torres is certainly an important forward and we will see if we can sign him or another player," Galliani admitted

The AC Milan vice-president also hinted at a move for another Chelsea player, Dutch midfielder Marco Van Ginkel. When asked about the 21-year-old, Galliani responded with: “Van Ginkel? It’s possible. We have written to Chelsea and are awaiting a response. We are optimistic.”

AC Milan are also interested in bringing on 21-year-old Dutch midfielder Marco Van Ginkel, dubbed "the next Frank Lampard"
