Guadalajara faces relegation for the first time in 108 years. On Sunday, El Rebaño lost against Santos 0-1 at Omnilife Stadium

Mexico’s favorite team is in need of a confidence boost. Yesterday, Las Chivas lost their second straight game in the Apertura 2014 tournament, and right now they are just three points away from relegation. Sports VP Francisco Palencia, at a press conference after the game, acknowledged the problem and urges the coaching staff and the players to take whatever actions are needed to get Chivas out of their current slump.

“I wouldn’t go so far to call this situation a crisis, but I have to say we now have reason to be worried.  Players have to do a better job on the pitch; they have to keep their eyes open, because we are not in a situation where we can relax. We still have time to turn this around,” he explained.

Palencia signaled key factors surrounding Guadalajara’s performances during the tournament that have to be corrected, and also supported the team’s coach, Carlos Bustos, who is already taking serious heat from fans and media.

“We haven’t been as balanced as we would want. We are making mistakes on both sides of the pitch, but we also have to say the team has not been playing as bad as our numbers would say. We have excellent communication with Carlos and his staff; we know how he wants his team to play, and we’ll try to help him find solutions," he told reporters.

Guadalajara has a tough schedule ahead, visiting Veracruz next weekend and hosting one of the tournament’s most interesting games against Cruz Azul.
