The pressure will be on young Brazilian midfielder Oscar to perform in 2014/15 as he succeeds legend Frank Lampard with the number 8 shirt at Chelsea.

On paper, the battle for the number one spot in post – between Petr Cech and Thibaut Courtois – is non-existent. The Czech goalie keeps his #1 tag at the back of his jersey while the Belgian has been given the number 13.

With Romelu Lukaku gone to Everton for good, the number 18 has now gone to Nigeria’s Victor Moses. Fernando Torres remains with the number 9 and Eden Hazard with the number 10. Didier Drogba has switched from the number 15 to the number 11 while Oscar has received Lampard’s vacated number 8.

“I am very pleased to be able to return to the number 11 shirt and I am very grateful to Oscar for allowing me to make this change,” Drogba told the club’s official website, to which Oscar replied:

“Didier is a Chelsea legend and a senior player. I am happy for him to take the 11 and for me to take the 8. Lamps is another legend at this club and I hope I will be as successful in the shirt as he was.”

Chelsea’s 25-man squad for the 2014/15 English Premier League season was presented to the home crowd at Stamford Bridge last Wednesday.
