Kenny Cooper (2), Andy Rose (2), Chad Barret (1) and Obafemi Martins (1), on the scoreline.

Wednesday's night will be one to remember for Sounders’ fans as they reached their fifth Lamar Hunt US Open Cup final in six years after an outstanding display against the Chicago Fire in the Starfire Sports Complex.

An early goal at the 6th minute by Kenny Cooper opened the ‘goals festival’ for Sounders. After that, the Seattle club took control of the game and Andy Rose scored the second goal before half time. During the second half, Seattle maintained their pace and goals started to come from everywhere on a night to forget for Chicago’s club.

Tottenham’s new signing, DeAndre Yedlin, looked motivated after the news of his transfer and had a nice performance; he delivered a fantastic cross to Cooper who headed in the fifth goal of the night.

Reactions came from both sides after the match. On reaching the final, Sounders midfielder Andy Rose said:

“It’s not every year you get that.  My first year we lost to Kansas City on penalties and that was heartbreaking. Last year we didn’t do the business. Now to get back, you know what it means a little bit more”.

On the other hand, Chicago Fire coach, Frank Yallop, expressed his disappointment as follows:

“I think just shocked and stunned with the result but I just think Seattle was better in every sort of department, so that ends up a rout, which in the semifinal of anything is shocking. It’s not good."

Sounders will visit the PPL Park to face Philadelphia Union in the US Open Cup final that will take place on September 16th. If Seattle wins the championship, they will equal Chicago Fire’s record of 4-cup wins.
