Piatti was recently signed by Impact under the Designated Player scheme.

Montreal Impact signed Ignacio Piatti with the hopes of improving their performance in a season that has turned into a nightmare for the Canadian side as they have only won 3 out of 22 games played. With a current run of seven consecutive lost matches in the MLS, Montreal adds the 29-year-old midfielder to their roster looking forward to get better results in the second half of the season.

Piatti was involved in a controversial row in recent days as he stated that he would be playing in the Montreal club as a way to boost his career and find in place in the United States, causing disappointment among Impact fans.

The former San Lorenzo said in an Argentinan radio show:

“My objective is to go to Canada, make a good impression, and then see if there's possibilities in the United States. I’d like to play for New York or Miami”.

Ignacio Piatti had a short spell in Europe playing for Lecce and was a usual starter for club San Lorenzo de Almagro. He helped his former club to reach the 2014 Copa Libertadores final; the 2nd leg will take place on Wednesday night against Paraguayan club Nacional. Piatti asked for permission to play this match but this wasn’t allowed due to MLS regulations.

Regarding this, Piatti said earlier in a phone interview:

“I will be following the match on the internet from the hotel”. He added: “If San Lorenzo wins tonight I will be celebrating by myself at the hotel’s bar”.

Impact's manager, Frank Koplas, is looking forward to use Piatti in Montreal's next match against Chicago on Saturday as he stated:

“With the long flight, medical examination and everything that goes along with his arrival, we don’t want to push things, but he could definitely give us some minutes".
