FC Bayern has a chance to remind Dortmund of their superiority yet again. Dortmund won two out of three of the Supercup meetings though, with Bayern winning in 2013. Last season, Dortmund won this ecnounter, 4-2. The match turned out to be Pep Guardiola's first lesson as far as the realities of German football are concerned. He realized that Bundesliga teams tend to pay a fast paced game; they also like to counterattack. In recent years, because of several meetings, the rivalry between Bayern and Dortmund has become more and more bitter.
In the 2012-13 season, the two met five times throughout the season, including in the UEFA Champions League Final. Last season, the two meet four times, including the DFB Pokal Final. That final was a close affair, with Bayern winning out in extra time thanks to a goal from the man who has taken it upon himself to torment Dortmund in recent years, Arjen Robben.
Borussia Dortmund will be playing without Robert Lewandowski, who will be appearing in Bayern colors. They will be led by Mats Hummels, the newly appointed captain. Sebastian Kehl chose to step down in what is his last season in professional football. Bayern's captain, Philipp Lahm, has only returned from vacation. He should start though. The rest of the Germany stars who ply their trade for Bayern at club level should also appear. Thiago Alcantara might not be available though.
Dortmund will use this chance to test out their new strikers against one of the best teams in the World. They were recently beaten, 4-0, by Liverpool in a friendly; whenever they play Bayern though, the match rarely ever turns out to be a friendly. Bayern will certainly not look at this match as a friendly either; instead this match will present them with yet another chance to defeat their closest rival over the past four seasons.
