After a promising start, Pumas has earned three consecutive losses, two of those playing in their stadium.

In the aftermath of their 1-0 defeat against Atlas, Mario Trejo resigned as Sports Vice-President for the second time in less than a year.

“My contract ends on August 12th, and I’m not interested in going on. No matter what happens on Thursday (against León), I will leave my position.  I don’t mean to pile on the pressure that is already affecting the team, but I decline on renewing my contract for personal reasons, which I’ll let you now afterwards”, he said.

Trejo, visibly upset, pointed out that if the team loses against León on Thursday, José Luis Trejo will also be removed as head coach.

“It’s really painful to lose in front of our home crowd. We will work on getting better for Thursday’s game, and if things don’t go as we want them to, perhaps it will be time to take other measures.”

Trejo will end his second run as Pumas’ VP. His first administration ended up with two championships, Clausura 2009 and Clausura 2011, both under Ricardo Ferretti. After reclaiming his executive spot, Trejo has been harshly criticized for keeping José Luis Trejo as coach, and for the poor performance of their foreign players, such as Dante López.
