Sounders also clinch to first place of the Western Conference after a 2-0 win against Houston Dynamo.

Seattle Sounders keep their 40th anniversary celebrations in fashion by taking the 3 points against Houston Dynamo at the CenturyLink field on Sunday night, claiming back the first place of the Western Conference table. 

Besides getting the top spot of the conference, this win set a record for Sounders German-American head coach Sigi Schmid who achieved his 200th victory in the MLS, becoming the first manager to reach this number. With respect to this Schmid said in press conference after the match: “It’s fantastic to finally get it because I was starting to wondering if we were going to get it, it is a reflection of the great players we have and I hope this is part of a bigger success at the end of the year”.

Latin American players Marco Pappa and Gonzalo Pineda scored the goals that led the Seattle club to victory. Pappa scored from outside the box in the 69’ minute after his shot was deflected by a Dynamo defender while the Mexican scored from the penalty spot 5 minutes later. The advantage gave Sounders the posession and control of the ball during the second half. Obafemi Martins was sent off 4 minutes before the final whistle after getting his 2nd yellow card. 

Next game for Seattle Sounders will be against Chicago in the Union Cup on Wednesday.
