The Red Devils have not given up on signing the Real Madrid star before the summer transfer window closes.

All through this summer, two clubs have been at it in their attempts to sign Real Madrid's Angel Di Maria.

The Argentinian attacker has seemingly been deemed surplus to requirements at his present club due to the recent signings of Bayern Munich's Toni Kroos and Monaco's James Falcao, and as a result, both PSG and Manchester United have been chasing him for his signature.

However, as is the case with many other high-profile transfers, it has not been a straightforward affair, but rather a dramatic saga full of twists and turns.

Just as it seemed that Les Parisiens had beaten the Red Devils to getting the 2014 Champions League winner, they suddenly opted to back out due to financial reasons, especially after getting fined for violating FFP rules and signing David Luiz from Chelsea for £50 million.

Reports in England now claim that Louis Van Gaal is keen on taking advantage of this situation to bring one of his much coveted targets to Old Trafford, and they have offered £55 million for the 26-year-old.

The former Oranje boss was also full of praise for the man that he hopes to bring in this summer, saying recently:

"At this moment, we have five No.9s and four No.10s – and we don't have wingers to give us attacking width.

"Or, I should say, we don't have wingers of the highest level, like [Cristiano] Ronaldo or [Angel] Di Maria or somebody like that."
