Liverpool, after a lengthy exile, will be back in the UEFA Champions League this season; they are set to experience a taste of the competition in preseason as they play one of its best teams over the past two seasons, Borussia Dortmund.

Borussia Dortmund has managed to hold on to all their big players with the exception of Robert Lewandowski, who decided to join Bayern last season. Perhaps, more importantly, they have managed to hold on to manager Jürgen Klopp. They have sustained their success over a period of five years. They came very close to taking the UEFA Champions League winners of 2014, Real Madrid, to extra time in last season's quarter-final, having participated in the final themselves in 2013 in Wembley against arch rivals, FC Bayern.

Dortmund seems to relish opportunities to play the big names in club football. They topped a group containing Arsenal, Napoli and Marseille in last season's Champions League group stages. Their style of football has won them many fans. They play with plenty of heart; Liverpool's theme "You'll Never Walk Alone" could easily be BVB's theme. Liverpool has made some very interesting signings following the loss of Luis Suarez to Barcelona. One of their former signings was of course, Nuri Sahin, the man who has signed for the Ruhr side once again. He will surely be looking to make a good impression.

Dortmund has made some good signings too, including two strikers to compensate for the loss of Lewandowski. Adrian Ramos had a very good campaign with Hertha Berlin and is set to lead the line for BVB. Ciro Immobile, Serie A's top scorer will be competing with him for the spot up front. Both BVB and Liverpool will be hoping that their new signings are adequate replacements for their most potent forwards. Dortmund obviously still has a talisman in Marco Reus to rely on in midfield; he can play up front if the need ever arises.

This match should be very entertaining; Liverpool will perhaps try to control possession and Dortmund will try to press them in order to produce counterattacking opportunities.

Who will win this battle?
