PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has now admitted that the player is "too expensive" for his highly ambitious club.

After weeks of speculation with the press in both Spain and France abuzz about what was set to be yet another mega-money transfer, PSG have now decided to pull the plug in their pursuit of Angel Di Maria.

The arrival of James Rodriguez in particular appeared to limit the Argentinian attacker's days at Real Madrid, and as a result, the 26-year-old has been linked with an exit as his current employers hope to recoup some much-needed funds.

However, Les Parisiens were slapped with a hefty €60 million fine and face a Champions League squad reduction for violating FFP regulations. Moreover, this summer, they have already spent a massive €50 million on acquiring David Luiz from Chelsea and despite being one of the wealthiest clubs in world football, they have decided not to move forward with the deal.

The club's president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, recently noted:

"[Regarding] Di Maria, it is true that we  held talks with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez," he stated in a press conference.

"But he is too expensive for us, so we have stopped negotiations."

With PSG now no longer in the running, English reports now single out Manchester United as the sole serious contender for his signature this summer.
