Louis Van Gaal is apparently considering a move for the 29-year-old whom he has worked with closely while manager of the Oranje.

Throughout the summer, one of the hottest transfer stories has been Manchester United's interest in Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal.

However, after months of going back and forth, the Red Devils do not appear to be any closer to sealing a deal for the Bianconeri star and so may be looking to turn their attention elsewhere.

The team's new Dutch coach, Louis Van Gaal, had recently been linked with one of his compatriots--Roma's Kevin Strootman, with whom he has worked with at international level and now yet another Dutchman has come into focus for the Premier League giants.

Nigel De Jong, known to Manchester City and Milan fans for his all-action displays in the middle of the park has emerged as a possible short-term solution for the Red Devils, according to English publication Express.

Priced at €10 million (£8 million), the report claims that the 29-year-old could be a good option as Van Gaal continues to monitor Strootman's recovery from a bad knee injury that saw him miss out on the World Cup.

While Manchester United, like his current employers Milan, will not be featuring in any kind of European competition this season, De Jong will certainly relish the opportunity to work with his coach from the national team, and a cash-strapped Rossoneri may be willing to listen to offers.
