After completing the transfer of 20-year-old defender Javier Manquillo, Liverpool may not be done yet. Brendan Rodgers could very well make of Marco Reus his eight signing of the transfer window.

Reus has spent his summer recovering from an unfortunate injury. He was ruled out of the Germany squad just a few days before the start of the World Cup. If he decides to stay at BVB, he will have to face an difficult challenge in the Bundesliga as he explained during an interview with Kicker earlier this week:

“It will be all about Bayern Munich again in the Bundesliga, even if they weren't crowned champions in 2007 and 2011 the season after a World Cup. As for Dortmund, we will have to ensure we don't drop as many points again as we did halfway through last season.”

It is understood that the player has no intention to quit Borussia Dortmund where he is very much appreciated by the spectacular home fans. He was quoted as saying:

“I can only repeat what I have already said before. I am very happy to be playing for Dortmund. My main objective for now is to get back to peak fitness. Everything else isn't important for me at the moment.”

However, reports in England suggest that the club would accept any robust offer. Reus could become Liverpool’s marquee signing of the season following the departure of Luis Suarez. Manchester United’s Louis van Gaal is also believed to be interested in the German star. It remains to be seen which of these two English Premier League giants would be ready to bid around £30M to secure Marco Reus’ pair of legs.

In other transfer news from England, Thomas Vermaelen is set to quit Arsenal. Arsene Wenger is reportedly favouring Barcelona over English rivals Manchester United as both clubs target the 28-year-old defender. Vermaelen has a £12M price tag and the Catalans could go in for his signature before the end of the 2014 summer transfer window.
