With his two spectacular headed goals en route to 2014 World Cup glory and his impressive performances at the back, it is no wonder that Matt Hummels is on several top club’s transfer list.

Barcelona were linked with the Borussia Dortmund star back in June but opted to increase the height of their backline by signing 1.92m-tall Jeremy Mathieu for €20M. Meanwhile, 25-year-old star Hummels has rubbished claims of a move away from BVB several times. He has been with the Black and Yellows since 2007, resisting a move unlike Robert Lewandowski and Mario Goetze.

However, it is now being reported that the German side is likely to sign Portuguese centre-back Tiago Llori from Liverpool on a loan deal; that is, if Manchester United offer a satisfying fee to bring Hummels at Old Trafford. A £30M bid could allow a successful deal to take place.

The Red Devils are expected to intensify their hunt for World Cup winner Matt Hummels after club icon Paul Scholes urged Louis van Gaal to strengthen Man United’s defence. The Men United v Prostate Cancer ambassador told the press on Thursday:

“He [Van Gaal] has only got three recognised defenders. Michael Keane and Tyler Blackett are coming through but as far as experience goes he’s missing a big chunk after losing Rio, Vidic and Evra.

“Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans are all good defenders but they do have their own injury problems.

“Hopefully they can get over them and have a full season. I’m sure they’ll do well, but I think he’ll look to bring a couple of defenders in.”
