The two-time Ballon d'Or winner is reportedly the target of an American's lawsuit over copyright infringement.

Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo is arguably among the most marketable athletes in the world.

So much so, that in fact he was recently rumored to have linked up with American rapper Lil Wayne as the star entertainer's first client for his newly formed sports marketing company.

However, that fame does come at a price, and the two-time Ballon d'Or winner now reportedly finds himself embroiled in a spot of legal trouble over some trademark issues.

As per Bleacher Report, the Portuguese star has been sued by an American by the name of Christopher Renzi as he claims to be the owner of ther "CR7" trademark in his native USA.

According to ESPN, Mr. Renzi opted to file a lawsuit after a Danish company nnounced plans to start marketing CR7's clothing line in the States and they had asked him to give up all rights to using the trademark in order to begin their selling operations.

Renzi, who works as a fitness instructor, feels that being that he had registered the trademark since 2009, he has every right not to be forced to abandon it and claims that it comes out of his initials and birthdate--October 7th.

However, the Danish textile group claims that Renzi's name selection was merely to profit from Cristiano Ronaldo's worldwide appeal and not through any original creativity on the individual's part.
