Despite heavy interest from Louis van Gaal to bring Edinson Cavani to Old Trafford, the Uruguayan has ruled out a Parc des Princes departure

The Paris Saint-Germain forward, Edinson Cavani has insisted that speculations of his departure from the French top-flight club are untrue.

The Uruguayan star, who enjoyed his first season with the the Ligue 1 champions last year after a summer move from Napoli, has dismissed reported links with the likes of Manchester United among others.

Cavani, who was linked with Manchester City ahead of his Parc des Princes, signed on a five-year deal from last season's Copa Italia winners on a £55m fee.

However, the Parisiens superstar's time has not been as wonderful as expected, with the player playing second fiddle to Swedish ace Zlatan Ibrhimovic, thus resulting in the Uruguayan playing wide.

"I'm certain that I'll stay - why wouldn't I?" the 27-year-old informed L'Equipe. "I feel very good in Paris, I have a contract to respect at PSG. I'd prefer to be here. I feel good here.

"Like I've already said, that doesn't depend solely on the position of a player but also things that can happen at the club."

Cavani expressed his hesitancy to reprise his rather wide role in offense and has had discussions with the coach regarding his position preferences.

"The staff replied to what I had mentioned," the explained. "We had some small problem with respect to the position I wanted but I feel very good about that.

But the Uruguayan has squashed all rumors of a PSG exit, only a year after joining the Ligue 1 giants

"I waited for the right moment to speak. It's important for a striker to play in a position which is natural for him. Now everyone knows by position and it's not worth talking about."
