Man United and Inter Milan will clash at the FedEx Field in an International Champions Cup encounter on Tuesday, the 29th of July 2014.

After a very disappointing campaign last time out, the Red Devils have seemingly found the perfect replacement for legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson. Van Gaal has guided his side to two consecutive wins so far. The first was a thoroughly dominant 7-0 victory over LA Galaxy.

United followed this with another win over Roma during their opening ICC fixture. The Red Devils dictated play during the early proceedings and registered three goals in the first half. Rooney opened up the scoring with a sublime right foot finish and then set up Spanish international Juan Mata for a second. The talismanic striker then added a third from the penalty spot to give his side a comfortable 3-0 lead.

But the game was not over as yet, Miralem Pjanic scored arguably his best goal ever with an audacious strike from his own half to send the ball into Ben Amos’ net. Francesco Totti pulled back another to make the score 3-2 but United were able to finish the match with maximum points.

Despite the victory, United’s new manager Louis Van Gaal was not pleased with his team’s performance and bemoaned the mistakes made by his players.

"I am pleased that we have won but it was not a good performance," said the Dutchman.

"54,000 people came to watch us but we can perform much better.”

"We are not used to this hot weather. I think we didn't play a good match because of the height of the stadium, the air, because all my good passers failed today.”

"I said when the World Cup was here in '94 it wasn't wise to play here at noon. America has a top sports climate but you have to play football at the right time.”

"When you are 3-0 ahead, the only thing you have to do is keep the ball in possession and then the opponent has to run and run and run. It's very difficult in this hot weather to do that."

"But we forgot to do that [keep possession] and we brought Roma into the game ourselves."

The Dutch international however lauded his team for three fantastic goals and singled out Wayne Rooney and Juan Mata for their excellent link up play.

"Some of our passes failed, the ball was bobbling all the time and we didn't create so much, but we scored three fantastic goals," he added.

"The pass from Rooney to Mata was unbelievable, despite the heat and the height. Mata was running with his brain at the right moment.

Juan Mata on the other hand also had good words to say about his new manager and he insisted that the winning mentality the former Netherlands boss brings to the club will bode well for the team.

"After the game when we had given two goals away he was not very happy, but I think his way is that of a great manager," Mata told reporters.

"He says what he thinks and has a clear way of understanding football. We feel the manager is a great manager who has brought a strong mentality. This club's made for a winning mentality and I think he has it."

"He has had success in different countries. We are happy with him and the way he works. Everything is new but we are adapting well to his style of football."

"He is right to be demanding. As a player you want a coach like this, always demanding more and to play better and try to win the games earlier or in a different way."

Inter Milan new boy Nemanja Vidic is set to face his former team for the first time after leaving the Old Trafford on a free transfer. Life at new club has been positive for the Serbian so far who saw his team record a victory over Real Madrid last time out. Vidic won the penalty which was eventually converted by Icardi who cancelled Gareth Bale’s wonder strike in the first half.

The match was decided on penalties after the scores remained leveled after 90 minutes and it was the Nerazzurri who emerged victorious.
