Arsenal move closer to bringing promising Southampton right-back Calum Chambers to the Emirates

Arsenal are expected to wrap up the signing of Southampton's versatile defender Calum Chambers for £12m, claims the Daily Mail.

The promising, 19-year-old talent, who despite only making 23 appearances for the Saints, has caught the attention of top-flight coaches of the English Premier League, including the likes of Arsene Wenger and Brendan Rogers. Chambers has made regular appearances for the English U19 squad and is the product of Southampton's youth academy.

The signing of Chambers will likely spell the end of Carl Jenkinson's time at Emirates as West Ham have shown interest in the Gunners right-back, a player who has found first-team chances hard to come by.

This comes after Arsenal brought French defender Mathieu Debuchy to North London, sealing a £10m move, and will face competition from Calum Chambers for a starting eleven berth.

According to Goal, the Southampton defender has already undergone a medical as the move is close to completion, a deal which eventually cost the FA Cup champions €20m.

This summer transfer window has seen Southampton cashing in on key players. Such deals include Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana's Anfield switch, Luke Shaw's Old Trafford arrival, and Dejan Lovren and Morgan Schneiderlin's expected exits to Liverpool and Tottenham, respectively.

If true, Chambers will be the third Southampton product to trade in his Saints jersey for the Gunners shirt, after the Three Lions duo Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
