Liverpool face Olympiakos Piraeus in an International Champions Cup encounter on Sunday, the 27th of July at the Soldier Field.

The Reds have not had a very productive preseason campaign so far and will be looking to respond when they face Greek side Olympiakos Piraeus. Out of the four preparation matches Brendan Rodgers’s men have played so far they have won two and lost the rest.

The Reds humbled Shamrock Rovers in their opening match winning by a 4-0 score line but were shocked in their second game as Brondby clinched a surprise 2-1 win over the Reds. Liverpool’s response was not ideal, however the Reds did win the match ultimately courtesy of goals from Suso and Peterson.

Their last match against Roma was a stiff battle between the two sides until a late own goal from Daniel Agger settled the match in Roma’s favor. Liverpool will now be looking to make a swift response against an Olympiakos side which mauled AC Milan in their last outing.

Argentinean midfielder Alejandro Dominguez opened the scoring with a fine half volley in the 17th minute. Dimitrios Diamantakos added a second after good work from new signing Arthur Masuaku and Bouchalakis’s long range effort settled the score as the Greek champions raced to a 3-0 victory.

They will now be relishing a tough battle against Liverpool and the result of the match would go far to prove how well they are prepared for the new season. The two sides were involved in a heated encounter last time they met in a Champions League encounter back in 2004. Steven Gerrard’s wonder goal on that day settled the tie and ensured the Reds qualified to the next round of the tournament.

Summer signing Emre Can has reportedly recovered from the calf injury he suffered last week but Liverpool will have to do without their €32 million signing Adam Lallana who is set to remain on the sidelines for six weeks after suffering a knee injury in training.

This means that the 26 year old will not be fit in time to face his former club Southampton in Liverpool’s opening fixture of the upcoming season.

"Lallana has been assessed by Liverpool's medical staff and does not require surgery," a club statement read.

"No specific timeframe has been placed on a return to fitness, but injuries of this nature can result in a spell of anywhere up to six weeks on the sidelines."

"The England international will undergo further assessment by the club's medical team in the United States and on return to Liverpool."
