Tottenham will continue their preseason preparations as they face Chicago Fire at the Toyota Park on Saturday, the 26th of July.

Tottenham’s opening fixture began on a disappointing note as they drew 3-3 against Seattle Sounders. Mauricio Pochettino taking charge of his first match as Tottenham boss saw his team fall behind twice, but Spurs were able to level scores after being awarded two second half penalties.

In their second pre-season game Tottenham showed more promise as they picked up a 3-2 win over FC Toronto thanks to two goals from Argentinean international Erik Lamela. The former Roma man suffered from a horrid campaign in his debut Premier League season but looked lively in the last match.

The 22 year old struck his first of the game after good work from Roberto Soldado. The Spanish international also had a part to play in the next goal as his pass resulted in a second goal for Spurs scored by Lamela again.

Pochettino introduced an entirely new outfield team for the second half, making 10 changes after 45 minutes. FC Toronto produced a much better response in the second half of the game. Wiedeman pulled one for the hosts in the 65th minute and Hamilton equalized the scores eight minutes later with a clever finish.

However Tottenham restored order with just five minutes remaining to full time as Townsend’s curling shot found its way to the net as the North London side recorded a 3-2 victory.
Mauricio Pochettino had words of praise for his compatriot Erik Lamela who had a difficult last season, but according to the former Southampton boss the Argentinean is a very talented player.

“We expect a lot from him, he’s an unbelievable player,” said Pochettino.

“He needs to show us that he deserves to play, but at the moment we are happy with his performance.”

Lamela himself was eager to put last season behind him and start fresh. The 22 year old suffered from injuries last season which restricted him to just three Premier League starts last season, but the former Roma man remained confident of better performances in the coming season.

“It’s something I would like [to carry my pre-season form into the upcoming campaign], but I have to continue to work,” said the Argentine attacker. “As the season progresses I will continue to get better.

“I felt like I was able to play a good 45 minutes. Overall I think the team did really well and I’m happy with the performance today.

“I had an unfortunate injury last season that kept me out of play for quite some time. In the same way, it’s helped me emotionally and morally to get better and work harder towards this season.”
