The Citizens kick off their US tour with a match against MLS cup champions Sporting Kansas City on Wednesday, the 23rd of July.

Man City will be without a host of star players as they kick start their US tour with a match against Sporting Kansas City. The players from Argentina including the likes of Sergio Aguero, Pablo Zabaleta and Martin Demichelis will be absent and will be joined by new signing Bacary Sagna, captain Vincent Kompany and Brazilian international Fernandinho.

However American fans will be delighted by the prospect of other Man City World Cup stars joining the team in the latter stage of the tour with group stage exit victims Joe Hart, James Milner, David Silva, Yaya Toure and Edin Dzeko all set to unite with the squad after the fixture against Sporting Kansas City.

Apart from the aforementioned players, Manuel Pellegrini’s squad is well decorated with world class players many of whom will be present at Sporting Park when City take on hosts  Sporting Kansas on Wednesday.

Samir Nasri, Gael Clichy, Jesus Navas and summer signing Fernando all failed to make the trip to Brazil and after taking part in a number of pre-season fixtures in Scotland they will be present as Man City kick start their US tour.

One player however who will not be in action on Wednesday is Spanish international Alvaro Negredo. The 28 year old fractured his foot in a preseason friendly against Hearts and is likely to stay on the sidelines for a couple of months.

Negredo’s injury will be a huge blow to City’s plans who were hoping to cash on the Spanish international with the former Sevilla man linked with a summer move to boyhood club Real Madrid.

However Negredo himself has denied such claims and has insisted that he is very happy at the club.

"I don't want to leave City," said Negredo.

"I'm very happy and very settled here. I had a difficult end to the season and that's why there has been a lot of talking but I've been very happy here from the first day I arrived."

With Negredo unlikely to be offloaded this summer, there are other players in the City squad who will definitely be looking for a move and will be hoping they can make a claim for themselves with good performances in the preseason matches. Man City’s English trio of Jack Rodwell, Scott Sinclair and Micah Richards hardly featured last season and will all be looking to secure moves away from the club.

Stevan Jovetic on the other hand has found himself down in the pecking order and will be hoping to attract suitors as well. With Eliaquim Mangala likely to sign with the Citizens imminently it also remains to be seen what future Matija Nastasic has at the club.

Wednesday’s match will also be a great opportunity for the younger players in the squad to make a name for themselves and get the attention of manager Manuel Pellegrini. John Guidetti, Emyr Huws and Karim Rekik have all returned from their loan spells at Stoke, Birmingham and PSV. The youngsters will now be hoping for a good preseason which can increase their stakes for a spot in the senior squad next season.

Kansas City fans on the other hand will be in a buoyant mood ahead of the fixture with star players Graham Zusi and Matt Besler having signed long term designated player contracts with the club. The talented players had been tracked by foreign teams but opted to extend their stay with the wizards.

Peter Vermes’ men brought an end to LA Galaxy’s unbeaten streak recently and will now be hoping to pull off an upset at the expense of the reigning Premier League champions.
