After clinching the trophy in Brazil, Germany top Fifa's latest world rankings, followed by Argentina, whilst Spain drop to eighth

The latest Fifa world rankings are out, and they come shortly after the 2014 World Cup in Brazil came to an end, a tournament which saw European giants Germany win a fourth trophy, their first since 1990. Die Mannschaft, the first European nation to win football's greatest prize on South American soil, see themselves reach the summit of the Fifa rankings after beating Argentina 1-0 in the final, making the number one position.

Lionel Messi's La Albiceleste climb up to second after losing their shot at winning the World Cup in extra time. 2010 champions Spain, who were ranked number one prior to the tournament's kick-off, fall to eighth after their abysmal performance led to a group stage exit for La Furia Roja.

The Selecao's World Cup run saw them break many records but for all the wrong reasons, ending in Scolari's resignation, and now sit in seventh place. After finishing third in Brazil, Netherlands find themselves in third-spot. Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal drop to 11th, France make the 10th spot, England plummet to 20th, whilst quarter-finalists and surprise package Costa Rica reach the 16th position.
