We take a look at the head to head between the two finalists of the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the records they can set when they face each other.

Head to Head Record:

Played: 20
Wins: Germany 6; Argentina 9

Records:

1) Germany will add to their tally of final appearances:

Germany will be walking out to contest an eighth World Cup final at the Maracana on Sunday, more than any other nation. They were previously tied with Brazil on seven final appearance.

2) Thomas Müller can become the first player in history to win the Golden Boot twice:

Müller can also become the first player to win it in two consecutive World Cups. He has five goals to his name. He is second on the list of top scorers in this World Cup behind James Rodriguez. If he scores one goal, he will be tied with James at the top of the charts and win the award on account of higher number of assists.

If Muller does indeed score against Argentina, he might end up winning a final in which he scored unlike the 2012 UEFA Champions League Final, a match his club, Bayern, lost in their own backyard despite his late goal.

3) Germany can add to the tally of most matches played by a World Cup side:

Germany have already featured in 105 World Cup matches, more matches than any other national side. They will add to their own tally when they step out on to the pitch for the final at the Maracana.

4) Germany can add to the tally of most matches played by a World Cup side:

Germany can continue to add to their record of total number of goals scored; they have already scored 223 goals in the history of the competition.

5) Germany can add to the tally of most goals conceded in the World Cup:

The Germans have also conceded no less than 121 goals in the history of the World Cup, more than any other side. If Argentina does score against them, this tally is set to rise.

6) Germany can win most matches over former World Cup winning teams in a single campaign

The most times a team has beaten former champions in a single campaign is three; three teams have achieved this including Germany in 2010 after beating England, Argentina and Uruguay. They can equal the record by beating Argentina within normal time or within 120 minutes.

7) Germany can beat the best goal difference set by a winning team:

The best goal difference set by a winning team belongs to Brazil of 2002 (+14). If Germany wins by a single goal, they can match the record; if they win by two goals, they can break the record.

8) Miroslav Klose can add to his own record:

The 36-year-old has scored 16 goals spanning four World Cups and could be set to add to his tally as he prepares to come out for what might be his final appearance in a Germany jersey.

9) Germany could become the first European team to win on South American soil:

Much has been made about the failure of Europeans to win in South America. However, Germany could put that curse to bed by beating Argentina in the final.

10) Maracana will become the second stadium to host two World Cup Finals:

Mexico's Estadio Azteca has had the honor of hosting two World Cup Finals. The Maracana becomes the second stadium to do so in the history of the competition. The second final hosted in Azteca, coincidentally, also took place between Germany and Argentina, with Argentina winning 3-2.
