On Wednesday, Belgian star Divock Origi arrived in the city ahead of medicals. He could cost the club around £10M to complete a move from French side Lille. As manager Brendan Rodgers aims to bolster his attacking plans, Liverpool are also set to cash in on Benfica winger Lazar Markovic for around £19.8M. The Serbian counts a couple of goals in 12 caps at international level and seven goals in 49 matches for the Eagles last season.
According to reports in England, both Origi and Markovic are set to be announced as Liverpool players this week. Meanwhile, Luis Suarez's transfer to Liverpool has been held up due to the rejection of his four-match ban appeal by FIFA. As the governing body's head of media, Delia Fischer, announced during a press conference in Rio de Janeiro:
“The Fifa appeal committee has decided to reject the appeals lodged by both the Uruguayan player Luis Suárez and the Uruguayan FA, and to confirm the decision rendered by the Fifa disciplinary committee on 25 June 2014 in its entirety.
“The terms of the decision taken by the Fifa appeal committee were communicated to the player and the Uruguayan FA today.”
However, all hopes are not lost for the soon-to-be Barcelona star as Fischer concluded:
“The relevant decision is not yet final and binding, ie. an appeal to the court of arbitration for sport is still possible by the player and/or the Uruguayan FA, subject to certain conditions.”
Regardless of what happens, Barcelona will reportedly announce their £75M capture in the coming days.
Meanwhile...
Luis Suarez could play start of new domestic season if Court of Arbitration for Sport decides to suspend ban until appeal is heard.
