A couple of months after being left out of England's 2014 FIFA World Cup squad and hence retiring from international football, Ashley Cole has lighted up his playing career with a move abroad to taste Italian football. In an official statement, the Giallorossi announced the signing:
“AS Roma announces that it has signed a two-year contract with English footballer Ashley Cole, expiring on 30 June 2016. The agreement also provides the company with the option of extending the contract for a further season.”
Ashley Cole made his club debut in 1999 with Arsenal in the League Cup. He won his first international cap with the Three Lions in 2001 before moving to rival London side Chelsea in 2006. He was released by the Blues this year after starting only 15 matches in the English Premier League last season.
