Two South American teams will go head to head as the World Cup enters the Quarter Final stage. Brazil and Colombia will go against each other in the second match of the day to be played on Friday, the 4th of July.

Colombia are currently on their best ever World Cup run and will want to make the most of it when they face Brazil in the Quarter-Final stage. José Pékerman’s men have lived up to the dark horses status which was appointed to them prior to the commencement of the tournament by first finishing top of group C after winning all their matches and then following it with a convincing 2-0 win over Uruguay in the Round of 16.

Los Cafeteros will however face their toughest challenge now when they go against hosts Brazil who have been tipped as favorites to lift the title. However things have not been as steady for the Samba giants as they might have expected.

The hosts just narrowly defeated Chile in the last round as they went through on penalties. David Luiz opened the scoring for the Seleção in normal time but Barcelona star Alexis Sanchez soon leveled the scores. Neither team was able to register a goal from then onwards and the game had to be settled through penalty kicks. Julio Cesar’s heroics in the penalty shootout ensured that Brazil cement their place in the last eight.

The five time winners will now face arguably the best team of the campaign so far. Colombia’s good form is down to a few individuals who have lived up to their billing and have taken the World Cup by storm. One of these players is AS Monaco playmaker James Rodriguez. The youngster currently leads the scoring charts having scored five goals in just four starts and has coupled it with two assists as well.

Brazilian midfielder Fernandinho who in the past played alongside Rodriguez at Porto has warned his teammates of the threat posed by the 22 year old. The Manchester City midfielder has stressed that Brazil will have to keep Rodriguez at bay if they are to get anything out of the match.

"I played against him in the Champions League," the 28-year-old said.

"It was at the start of his time in Europe and he wasn't yet a first-choice for Porto.”

"Already in that game he showed his technical quality with his left foot. In this World Cup he is showing everyone that the money Monaco paid for him was well invested. The less space he gets against us, the better it will be for Brazil."

The 29 year old further dismissed claims that his side were under pressure playing at home soil and insisted that they are well prepared to clinch their sixth World Cup title.

"We have been preparing ever since we first got together on May 26. We have worked on the psychological side and there is no need to do any of that now. What matters now is to show what we can do on the pitch," he said.

"This is my opinion. We have a very big responsibility representing a country of 200 million people who hope for happiness and better days through football."

"We still kept our concentration at the decisive moment when it came to penalties,” he added.

Fernandinho will need to step up in the match against Colombia with one of Brazil’s outstanding player of the tournament Luiz Gustavo suspended for the tie after picking up his second yellow card.

There are also concerns over the fitness of Barcelona superstar Neymar who took a knock on his knee and thigh in the Round of 16 clash against Chile. But it is expected that the 22 year old will start against Colombia.

Apart from their attack which has been superb, Colombia also boast one of the meanest defences in the tournament. Los Cafeteros have conceded just two goals in the current edition of the World Cup and managed to keep a clean sheet against what is on paper a very strong Uruguayan attack.
