Barcelona are reportedly close to agreeing a £40m fee for Luis Suarez, and are taking steps to avoid any future biting episodes from the Uruguayan

La Liga giants Barcelona have been rumoured to be keeping an eye out for Liverpool striker Luis Suarez.

The Uruguayan forward had a stellar 2013-14 season with his Merseyside club in the English Premier League, scoring 31 goals and winning the Golden Boot and PFA Player of the Year award.

This has attracted a host of admirers with Blaugrana’s new coach Luis Enrique reported to be keen on signing the 27-year-old in an attempt to reshape the Catalan side.

However, with the occurrence of Suarez’s controversial biting of Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini, the Liga BBVA heavyweights are looking at taking drastic measures to avoid any further biting episode.

According to the Mirror, Barcelona chiefs are insisting on inserting a bite clause in their potential £40 million player-plus-cash £160,000 a week deal for the Uruguayan superstar.

Although La Celeste’s all-time leading goalscorer was handed a four month ban by football’s governing body FIFA, Barcelona are still adamant on signing the Liverpool ace, who is valued at £80m by his current club.

Suarez, who claims the incident was all just an innocent accident, is looking at hiring top lawyer Juan De Dios Crespo to fight for a punishment reduction, and will receive backing from the four-time Champions League winners.

Given the fact that this was the third time he sunk his teeth into an opposing player, Barcelona might be making the right choice in including this clause in any future contract.
