The king of controversy himself, released some statements in which he criticized the ban of Suarez.

Despite the almost universal outcry by the football community calling for an even more serious ban on Luis Suarez for the disgraceful bite on Giorgio Chiellini, twice-banned Diego Armando Maradona criticized FIFA’s decision.

The Argentine had a number of issues with football regulating bodies and it understandably empathized with Luisito. While playing for Napoli, in 1991 el Diego was suspended for 15 months for testing positive to cocaine. Further, el Pibe de Oro was banned again in 1994 for failing a drug test for ephedrine. Most notably though, the talent scored what remains one of the most controversial goals with his hand against England during the 1986 World Cup.

Maradona never took responsibility for cheating England out of the 1986 World Cup

Former cocaine-addict, provoked:

This decision is a disgrace. I can't understand this. Who did Suarez kill to get this kind of ban. Why don't [Fifa] handcuff him and send him to Guantanamo [Bay]?”

Maradona, who was handed a suspended jail sentence in 1998 for shooting journalists with an air rifle, added:

A player works hard the whole year to be able to play at the World Cup, and Luis scored 29 goals [sic] and they kick him out of the World Cup like this. It's unbelievable.”

El Diego associated with Hugo Chavez, known for having harbored and protected members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC)

Uruguay's captain, Lugano, while talking about a player who was fined for overt racism and recidivist biter, stated:

“They treat him like a criminal," the captain said. "Escorted by the police [out of the Uruguay camp]. He did nothing. How wouldn't I defend him at that press conference? He's such a great guy. This ban is very harsh. It hits him at the very top of his level. At the best moment in his career.”

Despite the overwhelming and clear evidence, some papers, mostly from Uruguay, still describe the incident as "the alleged bite"

Clearly, Maradona, who shares both talent and insanity with Luis Suarez, was trying to provoke the football community and Fifa, forgetting that a person of his fame has a duty to encourage clean football, rather than to defend disgraceful acts like the ones we have become accustomed to see Suarez involved in.

If videos and pictures were not enough, there were bite marks on the Italian World Champion's shoulder
