Argentina and Nigeria will square off at the Estádio Beira-Rio in a Group F encounter on Wednesday, the 25th of June 2014.

A draw on Wednesday will be enough to guarantee Nigeria a place in the Round of 16 after managing to pick four points from the two games they have played so far. Nigeria recorded a 1-0 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina and were lucky after an Edin Dzeko goal was wrongly disallowed for being offside.
Nigeria coach Stephen Keshiis is delighted with his team’s performance in the group stages and has rallied his troops for a similar showing in the match against Argentina.

“The fighting spirit we showed was good”, Keshi said. "I never thought that we wouldn’t make the round of 16. I have the players.”

Midfielder Ogenyi Onazi has highlighted the importance of Lionel Messi but also claimed that he is a human like everyone else and can be contained

“Messi is a normal human being, a football player," he told reporters. "Of course we have to strategise and make our plans to make sure we get things done [against Argentina].”

Argentina on the other hand will be hoping to make it three wins out of three. Despite having notched maximum points out of both their games La Albiceleste have not been very impressive and had to rely on their talismanic forward Lionel Messi who has scored one apiece in both the matches so far.

The Argentinean side has been criticized for failing to produce good performances but Real Madrid winger Angel Di Maria has defended his team.

"I'm happy with how we're playing. It's not easy when the other team put 11 men behind the ball - it's impossible to play like that,” said Di Maria.

"If Messi doesn't hit it from there, it's difficult to score, but we created some good chances. The important thing was to win and we are on the right track. We played a good game.”

"We have won our two matches. With 11 men behind the ball it's very difficult; you get past one, then there's another defender, then you get past him and there's another. It's not easy."

However the 26 year old has claimed that his team will find it easy in the latter stages of the competition when his team comes against other sides which like playing attacking football.

"When you get to the last 16, you come up against teams who like to play, who like to attack. They will come out and play and that will suit us. Everyone knows Argentina are much stronger when we have spaces to attack."

Sabella has reverted to a 4-3-3 formation after a fielding a different setup in the match against Bosnia. Argentina are poised to start with the same starting eleven which recorded a 1-0 win over Iran however defender Marcos Rojo who is only one yellow card away from suspension might be rested.

Argentina is the better side of the two on paper and the fixture favors La Albiceleste as far as history is concerned. Out of the four meetings between the two sides at the World Cup, Argentina have managed to win three, whereas the Super Eagles have managed to record a victory over their counterparts in just one of their last six matches. Furthermore Nigeria have never won against a South American team at World Cup.
