Saturday's England vs Italy game is now CBC's highest rated FIFA World Cup group stage match ever. More than 21 million Canadians tuned into CBC’s 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ coverage

June 16, 2014 – The England vs. Italy game on Saturday June 14, 2014 brought in a record 2+ audience of 2.8 million viewers, making it CBC’s highest rated FIFA World Cup group stage match since England vs. USA in 2010, which drew 2.2 million Canadians. The second highest rated game to date (for 2014 FIFA World Cup™ coverage) was between Argentina and Bosnia-Herzegovina on Sunday June 15, which garnered a 2+ audience of 1.9 million.

Additional ratings highlights are as follows:

- To date, more than 21 million Canadians have tuned into some aspect of CBC/Radio-Canada or its partners’ 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ coverage, either online or on TV.

- In 2010, 19.3 million Canadians had tuned into CBC’s FIFA World Cup™ content in the first four days. By the same point in 2014, almost 1.5 million more Canadians have tuned into CBC’s FIFA World Cup™ coverage.

- Game audiences are tracking 60% higher in 2014 than in the Group Matches in 2010. Thus far, the games are averaging 1.5 million among the 2+ viewers.
