After Argentina defeated Bosnia 2-1 yesterday, the Super Eagles and Team Melli will battle it out in their quartet's second match of this year's World Cup.

Both Nigeria and Iran would have kept a close eye on the match between Argentina and Bosnia yesterday, and perhaps both teams would have been surprised by the score line. Were it not for a goal by Lionel Messi, the match could have possibly ended as a draw; prior to the Barca ace finding the back of the net, Argentina's only goal came courtesy of a deflection from one of Bosnia's defenders early on in the first half.

The Super Eagles, hence, will hope to earn maximum points against their Middle Eastern opponents, and depending on how much they can beat Iran by, they even could find themselves ahead of Argentina based on goal differential. Of course, that will not be the first thing on the minds for the 2013 African Cup of Nations winners, but it is still something that they will nonetheless be considering should the game go their way.

In Iran, though, they, at least on paper, have a potentially tricky foe to dispatch. The Iranians are presently ranked as the top side in their confederation and Stephen Keshi's men will have to be on their toes. They do, though, possess one of the top goalkeepers in the world in captain Vincent Enyeama and will hope to match or better their most productive World Cup campaign--back in 1994 and 1998 when they finished top of their group and made it to the round of 16.

However, since then, they have seen their results plummet as they finished dead last in their quartet in 2002 and again in 2010, so in their fifth World Cup appearance, fans will expect them to qualify from Group F as either runners' up or even better, group winners. And although Argentina are slated as the clear favorites to finish in top spot, observers have seen so far that nothing is a guarantee in this World Cup.

As for Iran, nicknamed Team Melli, under the guidance of former Real Madrid and Portuguese national team coach Carlos Queiroz, they finished top of their qualifying group and defeated sides like fellow World Cup contenders South Korea in the process. The Persian powerhouse have never gotten out of their group in their last three appearances, with their most recent result ending in humiliation as they finished dead last back in 2006 with just one point.

However, under Quieroz, the team has changed drastically, with numerous foreign based players being included in the squad, so while the vast majority still do ply their trades in their native Iran, there is a small contingent of players who play abroad in leagues like MLS and the Premier League. However, as to how this change will benefit them yet remains to be seen as they prepare to get out of the group stages for the first time in their World Cup history.

With the Argentina and Bosnia clash finishing as closer than one had predicted, both sides could take advantage of that result to secure a good position within their quartet.
