The repeat of the 2010 World Cup final ended in an emphatic 5-1 win for Netherlands but according to Robben, it wasn't payback

Netherlands World Cup group stage fixture against the defending champions Spain gave the Dutch side a chance to avenge their cruel, extra time loss at the hands of La Roja at the 2010 final in South Africa.

Andres Iniesta's late strike at Soccer City broke the hearts of Netherlands as the three-time runner-up came up short yet again, finishing the competition in second place.

But payback is what the Oranje got this time around as a brace from Arjen Robben and Robin van Persie saw Louis van Gaal's men thrash La Roja 5-1 in a shocking defeat for FIFA's number one ranked side.

However, the Bayern Munich ace clams it wasn't revenge for the match four years ago, saying: “We are happy. I’m very proud of my team, it’s such a young team. It’s only the group stage, so it’s not revenge.”

“We haven’t won the cup, it’s not 2010. We have to keep our heads cool.”

“We should take advantage of this win,” Robben added. “Maybe it will give us a good boost of confidence but it’s just the start."

“We keep training well and working hard. We will prepare for our next game against Australia, that’s all we can do.”
