Uruguay is set to test themselves against European opposition in the form of Slovenia.

Uruguay took on Northern Ireland and found their way past the European side thanks to a goal from Christian Stuani. The goal was set up by Edinson Cavani who could have scored himself had he not allowed the ball to get away from him following a pass from Cristian Rodriguez.

He did well to collect the ball as it went away from him and send in a pass to Stuani to score a simple goal. Stuani was one of the substitutes to come on at half-time; Diego Forlan was one of the players to leave the pitch at the same time.

Lest we forget, Forlan is the holder of the Golden Ball; his performances mesmerized viewers in South Africa in 2010. More might rest on his shoulder than what everyone thinks due to the injury of Luis Suarez.

Suarez has been included in the squad which will travel to the World Cup in Brazil. How much of a part he will play is highly doubtful due to injury problems. Suarez was a huge part of his nation’s success in 2010 but Forlan was undoubtedly the driving force behind Uruguay’s progression to the semifinals. He might need to play a similar role for Oscar Tabarez’s side once again.

Plenty of survivors from the previous World Cup are coming into this one including Edinson Cavani. Cavani’s star has not been shining as brightly as before following a move to PSG; however, in the event that Suarez’s minutes become limited, Cavani will have more burden on his shoulders. He will not be overshadowed by a Zlatan Ibrahimovic and should be able to take some headlines in what is set to be a tough group stage campaign.

Uruguay has to find the back of the net more frequently as well. Can they do so against Slovenia?
