Should Vicente Del Bosque shun the false nine role for the important tie against France?

After seeing Cesc Fabregas struggle for the national team in a false nine role, Vicente Del Bosque might be looking at other players who could perform better down the middle.
Over the years, we have seen trends in modern football change quite drastically. From the fall of the 4-4-2 formation, to the rise of 4-5-1, managers have been modifying their tactics with varying success since the turn of the current millennia.

However, there is one tactical choice that has been used with extreme caution by a selected few top managers of the game. Out of these managers, most chose to discard that formation. Roma did well to execute the 4-6-0 formation to their benefit, Barcelona are one team who have successfully used this formation to their advantage.

The latest news from Barcelona’s camp is that David Villa will be sidelined for a long period of time. What impact will this info have on the club’s January transfer window plans?
The 30-year-old striker is believed to have fractured his tibia during Barca’s semi-final game against Al Sadd on Thursday. Villa was part of Guardiola’s starting XI for this 2011 FIFA World Club Cup encounter. He had to quit the field of play after 39 minutes only due to his leg injury.

David Villa’s prolonged absence will leave a hole in Pep Guardiola’s squad. Why should Barcelona deprive themselves from strengthening their attack whereas the transfer window is just around the corner?

Earlier this week, Spanish news source Marca claimed that the Catalans have opened the door for Villa to join the highest-bidding team from the English Premier League. But upon hearing this report, coach Guardiola categorically refuted it by stating loud and clear:

The biggest midweek fixture in La Liga will see Valencia and Barcelona lock horns at the Mestalla Stadium. Kick off time for this match is at 4:00pm EST and 8:00pm GMT.
Interestingly, Barcelona will not go into tonight’s game as La Liga leaders. But because of their unfortunate and surprising slip away to Real Sociedad, Barcelona now find themselves behind the likes of third-placed Sevilla, second-placed Real Betis and upcoming opponents Valencia.

With their victories against Atletico Madrid, Racing Santander and more lately Sporting Gijon, Valencia boast of having 9 points and a (+3) goal difference just like Real Betis. Sevilla, having played a game more than both Los Che and Andalusia rivals Betis, possess 8 points compared to Barca’s 7.

Valencia vs Barcelona: A Matter Of Consistency For Both Teams In La Liga

Wednesday September 21 2011,
Tags: Pep Guardiola, Roberto Soldado, Unai Emery, Lionel Messi, David Villa
Barcelona’s 8-0 victory over Osasuna at the weekend placed Guardiola’s boys back on track in La Liga, but can they maintain their form against leaders Valencia?

Barcelona and Valencia face each other in La Liga this evening.La Liga Table

Valencia currently sit above everyone else with three wins out of three. Nine points, a goal difference of three with six goals scored and three conceded has been good enough to give them a narrow advantage over Real Betis, who share the same amount of points.

Barcelona have scored fifteen goals and conceded only two thus far, yet - as a result of their costly 2-2 draw away to Sociedad on September 10 - they can only afford a place in the fourth position. A win for the hosts at the Mestalla would eventually cause a huge damage to Barca’s season, knowing that arch-rivals Real Madrid could hence regain the edge in the standings - depending on their score line against Racing Santander.

Barca obtained their Super Cup tickets after defeating Manchester United 3-1 at the Wembley Stadium on28 May 2011, while the Dragons turned into their opponents subsequent to their 1-0 triumph in last season’s all-Portuguese Europa League final against Sporting Braga on May 18.
