Each match day in this new season spurs up surprises, each clash is a must win battle for the teams involved. Saturday kicks off with the clash of the week featuring Arsenal and Manchester United at Old Trafford.
So finally, after two trips away from Manchester, the Red Devils will be back in their own fortress where they commenced the campaign with a 1-0 victory against promoted Birmingham. How will they fair out against Arsene Wenger's rampant youngsters?
It is certainly too soon to draw any conclusion regarding Arsenal’s convincing results. The Gunners have scored 10 goals in two Premiership matches and only one of those goals was netted by a striker (Eduardo).
Due to the fact that Arsenal have the maximum points from two games, they will have the advantage over Manchester United after they Red Devils lost three points off their bag with the defeat at Burnley.
However, despite Arsenal’s excellent start to the season, many believe that Saturday will be the moment to separate the boys from the men.
Both teams had to make crucial decisions during this transfer summer. Arsene Wenger let away the likes of Kolo Toure and Emmanuel Adebayor whereas Ferguson waved goodbye to Carlos Tevez and the inspirational Cristiano Ronaldo.
Still, Arsenal and Manchester United both insist that the sale of their key players will have no negative effect on their respective squad as long as they believe that no player is bigger than a club.
So for the first time in more than three years, forwards Emmanuel Adebayor and Cristiano Ronaldo will not take part this gigantesque fixture.
How will these absences affect the play of the game?
Manchester United proved their value as a squad when they bounced back from a barren first period to score five second half goals which trounced Wigan Athletic last Saturday. After that result, many Manchester United supporters were proud to claim that the Red Devils do not miss Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez in any way.
With Berbatov, Nani, Rooney, Michael Owen, and Antonio Valencia, Manchester United possess an array of talented players upfront who can trouble defenders. It seems like it is only up to Sir Alex Ferguson to choose a good formation, to select a perfect starting eleven, and to strengthen his player’s mentality with words, for Manchester United to beat any other team.
However, it will certainly be different against Arsenal who play with sweet passes. Whereas Manchester United are also susceptible of squandering chances in front of goal, Arsenal can boast of the fact that everyone is capable of scoring in their squad – be it Abu Diaby, Gallas, Vermaelen, or Fabregas.
But Arsene Wenger will also not attempt to rely on these facts. Instead, the French man will take Saturday’s clash against the Premiership’s defending champions as a total test to evaluate the readiness of his players in terms of experience, skill, and intelligence.
A win for Arsenal at Old Trafford will definitely give a strong warning to the rest of the teams in the league. The Gunners could be firing themselves at the top of the standings before the end of that day.
