Colombia and Ecuador will face each other again this coming Saturday as qualification to reach South Africa 2010 resumes all over the planet. With four matches to go for each team in the campaign, this crunching encounter will define a lot in the fate of these two teams.
They certainly seat just two places above the bottom of the South American World Cup qualifying table, but they remain in the hunt for tickets to South Africa 2010.
Colombia, who are locked on 17 points like Venezuela, are only three points behind Ecuador. Knowing that an emphatic victory could take them onto the fifth place (play-off zone) at the end of the day, Los Cafeteros will deploy all of their strength against Ecuador.
As things are getting tighter in the middle of the table, the Colombians will try to better themselves from their recent mixed results.
Two away defeats cost them six lost points. Still can Colombia find a way to success once again?
Colombia have a strong home record in this World Cup qualification campaign. Los Cafeteros could make the most of it when they’ll play Ecuador on Saturday.
The Colombians are facing strong competition from rivals Venezuela, and Uruguay in the race for a qualifying slot.
Ecuador are currently on a high since their 1-1 draw against Brazil. A remarkable 2-0 win against Argentina especially contributed to La Tri’s recent impressive form. The Ecuadorians are putting the pressure on Maradona’s men with only two points between them.
La Tri could profit from the situation on September 5th. Whereas the Argentines could miss out on a win against giants Brazil, Ecuador will enter Saturday’s encounter against Colombia as prospective winners.
Nothing is assured yet as things stand in the group so the determination is high in every camp. But for Ecuador, the concern will be on managing an away victory for only the second time in seven attempts.
