Athletic Bilbao vs Getafe Match Preview
Athletic Bilbao and Getafe will lock horns at the Estadio San Mames on March 20.
The visitors are just behind Bilbao in eighth but they have no chance of leapfrogging them even if they defeat them.
That is because Getafe are on 36 points and 5 points behind 7th placed Athletic Bilbao.
But at least, a positive result will help them pursue their chase for an European spot.
Getafe trounced Real Mallorca 3-0 last week and this is what enabled them to join Villarreal on 36 points and to eventually move up to where they are now.
Now if Getafe found relief through their defeat of Mallorca which marked the end of their torrid run of 6 matches without a victory, bad news has just hit their camp.
Recent reports indicated on Wednesday that striker Roberto Soldado could miss the remainder of La Liga season with a knee injury.
Soldado lasted around 80 minutes on the field last week against Mallorca and he then came off after showing signs of weakness.
Losing Roberto Soldado will certainly be a huge blow for Getafe but Miku, who substituted Soldado and instantly scored after his arrival on the pitch, could prove to be the revelation.
Either way, Athletic Bilbao’s concern now will be to take full advantage of this weekend’s fixture and get 3 more vital points.
Last week, they failed to take their chances to move above Deportivo La Coruna as a missed penalty cost them a goalless draw away to Sporting Gijon.
On Saturday, they’ll have to win to prove how serious they are to grab a Europa League or Champions League finish at the end of the season.
