Espanyol vs Sevilla Match Preview
After enduring a surprising 4-1 trashing loss in the hands of bottom club Tenerife, Espanyol will resume their campaign with a tough game at home to Sevilla.
This La Liga season hasn’t been so exciting for Espanyol fans so far. Qualifying for the Europa League doesn't even look like a realistic dream.
However, falling into the relegation zone is mathematically probable.
Espanyol occupy the 14th rank in La Liga table and only two points separate them from Real Zaragoza who are currently safe in 17th place.
Coach Mauricio Pochettino couldn’t have his wish of winning away from home granted the last time out as his side went down 4-1 in Tenerife.
Now Espanyol will have to focus in order to pick their 7th home win of the season in La Liga.
For Sevilla, the job will be to win and to win at all cost; not only to keep up pace with other teams contesting for a top four finish, but also to cover the wounds which they suffered after experiencing a Champions League exit in midweek.
Goalkeeper Andres Palop, who took much of the blame for Sevilla’s loss to CSKA Moscow in Europe, asked for forgiveness from the fans before noting:
"We can still meet the objectives which we set at the start of the season."
Espanyol should watch out for Sevilla’s wild desire of erasing their most recent disappointment.
