Barcelona vs Valencia Match Preview

Isaac Asante, Mar 12th 2010
FC Barcelona will be playing against third place Valencia at the Estadio Camp Nou this weekend, in match-day 26 of La Liga.

match

Barcelona and Valencia drew 0-0 at the Mestalla Stadium during beginning of this season, but on Sunday evening, settling for a goalless draw will not be an option for either side.

A serious matter for Barcelona

This clash will be taken very seriously by the Catalans who will be looking to regain the pole position in the league standings; and it will not only give them 3 precious points, but also will it serve as a preparation for their Champions League second-leg encounter at home against Stuttgart in midweek.

Barcelona shared a point last weekend when they travelled away to Almeria, with Lionel Messi rescuing the Blaugrana through a second-half equalizer.

This unsatisfying result however saw them drop down to the second spot in the table due to a weaker goal difference than rivals Real Madrid; yet, coach Guardiola believes that ‘nothing is decided yet’.

Barcelona are anticipated to give their starlet Pedro Rodriguez a chance in their starting line-up subsequent to Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s red card a week ago at the Estadio Mediterraneo.

Valencia – Staying above Sevilla and Mallorca

Valencia player David Silva during a La Liga matchValencia presently have 47 points out of 75 possible, and they sit 4 points above Sevilla and Mallorca in the table, but they still have a long way to go if ever they hope to catch up Real Madrid and Barcelona at the top who both possess 62 points.

Possibly, Valencia’s goal will not be to reach the first position in the league, but at least, keeping their place in the Top Four for a place in next season’s UEFA Champions League will be vital.

A loss this weekend at the Camp Nou against Barcelona will reduce the separating from Sevilla and Mallorca to a single point, if these two teams both go on to snatch victories in their next games.

Valencia have a busy schedule next week as they meet Werder Bremen in the UEFA Europa League on March 18, before facing Almeria at the weekend as part of their regular campaign in La Liga.

Keeping their feet in fresh condition would be advisable, but at the same time, getting the right score lines are always essential.

It is thus up to Valencia to be up to their challenge and be on control of their situation.

Barcelona vs Valencia – The Past

In recent years, it is quite apparent that games between Barcelona and Valencia have been controversial, with Los Che proving to be very aggressive.

Overall, Barcelona have managed to take the full the authority over Los Murcielagos, scoring 14 goals in their last meetings against Los Che, and conceding only 5.

Away from home on Sunday, Valencia will be giving their all to upset their challengers, and therefore increase their mounting miseries.
