Villarreal vs Deportivo Xerez Match Preview
On paper, most people would surely bet an easy victory for Villarreal. But as football isn’t played on paper but on the field, such calculations will have no meaning when Villarreal and Xerez face each other on Sunday.
Underdogs Xerez could cause sorrows to the Yellow Submarines and thinking about a Villarreal loss on Sunday is perhaps not unrealistic.
Going back to the first part of La Liga season, one can recall Deportivo Xerez’s shocking 2-1 victory over Villarreal.
Goals from Mario Bermejo and Perez Antonio recorded a remarkable comeback for the Azulinos which left the Yellow Submarines in a more miserable state.
Most recently, Xerez released themselves a bit from the intense pressure created by their relegation battle.
They stunned Malaga 4-2 away from home with three of their goals coming in the last 20 minutes of the game and eventually cancelling Malaga’s 2-1 lead at a point in the match.
Xerez therefore cut the eight-point gap that separated them from 19th place Tenerife to only five.
There is still a long way to go for the Azulinos before the move out from the drop zone but completing the double over Villarreal will surely help them to achieve their ambition of surviving in La Liga.
However, Villarreal will surely make it very hard for Xerez to breathe at the Camp El Madrigal.
The Yellow Submarines have lost only twice in as much as 13 games on home soil in La Liga this season.
