Mallorca vs Sporting Gijón Match Preview
In the first part of La Liga season, Sporting Gijon stunned Real Mallorca 4-1 in front of 20,000 fans at the Estadio Municipal El Molinon.Mallorca broke the deadlock with a 12th minute penalty and went into the dressing rooms at half time into the lead.
But the second period offered much excitement to the home crowd as Moran and Bilic scored a goal each while Miguel de las Cuevas got a brace in between to bury the visitors in a scintillating comeback.
As things stand in the league table now, Sporting Gijon are 10th with 31 points. They seat five places and 9 points behind Mallorca.
Both Gijon and Real Mallorca enjoyed wins last weekend so it could be hard to separate these two teams come Sunday.
Of course, the hosts will play with the desire to overturn the terrible result which they suffered in the first leg of this fixture.
Real Mallorca could break into La Liga’s top four if they beat the Rojiblancos and if Sevilla lose away to Real Madrid on Saturday.
Meanwhile, should Sevilla complete the double over Los Blancos and should Mallorca fail to win on Sunday, then they could be out of the European zone at the end of the weekend.
