Real Madrid vs Racing Santander Match Preview

Angela Asante, Nov 19th 2009
Fans around the world may still be controlled by the thrill, the joy, the tears, and all the emotions in which they went through during the international break that was marked by a few all-important World Cup play-off matches around the planet.

Real Madrid's Lassana Diarra tries to dribble past one of Racing Santander's defenders during a La Liga matchBut in Spain, a country that has already secured its passage for South Africa 2010, the focus will solely be on the return of the exciting Spanish Primera La Liga.

In the capital on Saturday evening, all eyes will turn to the action that will take place at the Santiago Bernabeu as Real Madrid host Racing Santander.

The much-anticipated return of the formerly-injured Cristiano Ronaldo and the awkward condition in which Racing Santander find themselves are two things that promise to give another tone to this upcoming interesting encounter…

Today, Live Soccer TV’s Angela Asante statistically assesses both teams ahead of Saturday, November 21st.

Real Madrid statistically miles ahead of Racing Santander

Who will put their money on a Racing Santander win at the Santiago Bernabeu this weekend? Probably, only a few people will do so – if not no-one.

Five home games, five home wins, seventeen goals scored and three clean sheets: Los Blancos are a rolling stone on home soil.

On the first day of the league, Deportivo La Coruna looked set to be the team to give Real Madrid a disappointing start at home but Lassana Diarra’s winner denied the visitors on that day to do so.

Since then, Real Madrid conceded to only one other team at the Santiago Bernabeu – Real Valladolid – but Los Blancos still went on to win 4-2 in that game.

At home, Real Madrid have a remarkable average of 3.4 goals per match which simply shows how lively and attacking of a side they are.

Contrarily to Real Madrid’s positive home statistics, Racing Santander possess disappointing away performances which they aim to get rid of. Ironically, their away results are better than those that they get at home, but they are still far from being positive.

Out of fifteen possible points, Racing Santander have picked up only six; those are the results of three draws and one win (actually, their only win in La Liga so far in the campaign).

However, considering the fact that Racing have conceded less damage away from home than at home this season, there is a possibility that they could pull out an impressive result against the Spanish giants on Saturday evening.

Statistics show that Racing Santander have scored as many goals as they’ve conceded away from home but they’ve only been unable to find the net once – that was against Real Mallorca in their last away fixture.

Instead of sinking deep down the table, Racing Santander wish to put an end to their misery. As their away form proves to be less alarming, they could find hope and take advantage of Saturday’s trip to Madrid as the perfect pillar to change the bad tone of their season.

By Saturday evening, Racing Santander might be in the hands of a new coach after the sacking of Juan Carlos Mandia earlier in the month.

How historic would it be for the man that will be in charge of the struggling club as the game against the giants, Real Madrid, will be his first one?
