Barcelona vs Real Zaragoza Match Preview

Angela Asante, Oct 21st 2009
FC Barcelona have now gone two games without a win after failing to get victories against Valencia and Rubin Kazan in the league and the Champions League.

Barcelona's Zlatan Ibrahimovic fed up of being contained by his opponentsThis is indeed surprising for a team as wonderful as Barcelona, who had established a 100% record in La Liga earlier on with 18 points out of six 6 games. Nonetheless, they might probably get the chance to redeem themselves on Sunday when they host 13th place Real Zaragoza at the Camp Nou.

Not Easy to get back on track

There is no doubt most Barca fans believe that their side will be able to humble Zaragoza in other to remain at the top of the Spanish League table. For sure, it could be an easy encounter for Pep Guardiola’s team, but the fact that the Blaugrana could feel under pressure due to their reduced lead at the top of the standings could affect Sunday’s game’s result.

In fact, it is undeniable that rivals Real Madrid are once again stressing the league leaders - following Los Blancos’ capability of profiting from the Catalans’ goalless draw last weekend.

Perhaps supporters would then appeal to Lionel Messi and Zlatan Ibrahimovic to come up and help Barcelona take control of the situation. Nevertheless, despite the fact that Barcelona aren’t faced by any major danger, it looks like the Spanish giants are lacking of the intense luck they had last season, when they had an easy run to grab the treble.

No one knows how the defending European champions will end their season, yet, looking at the recent form of the team, and mostly their shocking home defeat to Rubin Kazan, one could easily assume that the La Liga title holders are already struggling against exhaustion.

Obviously, no matter what the case may be, it is certain that Barcelona’s managing board wouldn’t love to see the club give up that early. A little bit of concentration and confidence would eventually make things a lot better ahead of them.

Another Shock?

Racing Santander only have 7 points in 8 games played, and their hopes could keep fading away as they travel to the gigantic stadium of Barcelona at the weekend to face a side arguably referred to as the  “toughest side in the world”.

This is undeniably a difficult mission, but in any case, it is a "Do or Die" affair for the visitors, for another loss would widen their chances of lying at the bottom of the La Liga table.

Without doubt, this is something the away side will try to avoid; but regardless of the weight of their task, Real Zaragoza could set their mind on emulating Rubin Kazan’s great achievement in mid-week.

Unquestionably, after bad memories last season, Zaragoza have no choice but focusing on making the impossible, if ever they are to succeed in their battle to stay in the Spanish Primera Division next season.
