West Ham United vs Stoke City Match Preview
West Ham manager Gianfranco Zola isn’t the only Italian manager in the Premier League whose season hasn’t lived up to expectations so far. But he may be the one most likely to be unemployed soon.
Rumor and speculation surround Zola’s compatriots Ancelotti and Mancini, but weekend reports had it that Zola would have two games to prove his managerial chops or else.
Make that one game now, if the reports are to be believed. The Hammers lost a big match to Wolves at Upton Park on Tuesday thus taking their losing streak to five.
Further speculation centers on Glenn Hoddle as a possible replacement for Zola.
Now on 27 points and 16th in the league West Ham teeter on the brink of the relegation zone just three points ahead of Burnley and Hull.
Stoke City’s last match against West Ham ended 2-1 in Stoke’s favor. They must be confident in victory this weekend too given West Ham’s poor form.
The Potters have lost just twice in 11 league matches and now sit comfortably in 12th with little chance of relegation. They’ve won three of those 11 games.
Injuries to James Beattie, Salif Diao and Ryan Shawcross will affect manager Tony Pulis’s selection. So too will the suspension of Dean Whitehead, who was sent off against Spurs at the weekend.
