The African champions are tipped as unable to create any shock against the reigning World Cup champions, as the Pharaohs usually make no impact in global competitions. However, Coach Hassan Shehata has order beliefs.
"We are aware Brazil and Italy are considered favourites in the group while Egypt and the United States are looked upon as outsiders," said the Arabic coach.
"But we are also a big team now and should not be afraid of our opponents. We have managed to win the Nations Cup six times, including the last two in a row.
"We will not be in South Africa for fun. It is our duty to defend the reputation of Egypt and prove we deserve a place alongside the big boys and challenge them as well."
Indeed, the Egyptians have established themselves as a true powerhouse on the African continent. It might be time for the Pharaohs to show what African champions are made of when they participate in the Confederations Cup tournament.
Coincidently, Egypt have been paired alongside elites. After opening their mini-tournament campaign against Brazil, a clash against the Azzuri certainly not the most refreshing. But should the Egyptians manage to impose their style of football against Italy on that day, they might certainly spark up an African fiesta.
Hassan Shehata's admirable tactics and techniques have shaped Egypt's national team football with skill and simplicity. The Pharaohs have the ability to play around with the ball smoothly in a simple manner.
While the back line is managed by some excellent and physical defenders, Egypt's midfield responds to Shehata's clever placement of his players. And talking about pace, Mohamed Zidane has it all upfront.
Meanwhile, Marcello Lippi's Italy possess talent, experience, and strength in depth – which together are very had to break.
But the Azzuri can also be 'boring' at times as a part of the worldwide view believes. Italy were unconvincing in the Euros in 2008. With out-of-form players like the world's former best keeper Gianluigi Buffon, Italian fans will hope that their team doesn't succumb to Egypt's wild desire of winning against giants.
