*Eliminatoria al Mundial 2010
This victory injected some much-needed fire to Honduras’ burning hopes of reaching the World Cup finals. They may well repeat this wonderful performance with a good result against La Selecta.
On paper, Honduras are tipped as favorites to win against El Salvador – who could only draw goalless on March 31st in a friendly match against a Jamaican side deprived of a real coach.
Honduras, who meet rampant side USA on June 6, will hope that this visit to the United States won’t exhaust them too much ahead of their qualifier against El Salvador at the Francisco Morazan Stadium.
Hard work and unity might help them reach South Africa in 2010 while El Salvador – who are yet to record a win in this final round – have so much to do if they want to qualify to the World Cup for only the third time in their history.
27 defeats and 83 goals conceded against Honduras in as much as 50 meetings shows that history is not on La Selecta’s side.
El Salvador’s miserable head-to-head statistics against Honduras may give them either fear or strength when they come up against Honduras on June 10. There isn’t much to tell about these two teams but certainly, much will have to be decided when they clash against each other in Honduras.
La Selecta’s fate will mainly be decided upon the result they’ll get against Mexico whereas Los Catrachos’ hopes of reaching the finals of the World Cup are very much realistic.
