France vs Lithuania Match Preview
France v Lithuania, a crucial game for Les Bleus
Struggling side France visit Baltic team Lithuania on March 28 in one of Group 7’s World Cup qualification games. Current boss Raymond Domenech wasn’t expected by French supporters to remain in post, but after securing a vote of confidence from France’s FA, the 57-year-old still has the task of qualifying Les Bleus to the World Cup into his own hands.
No time for slip ups
Despite possessing an array of talent in players like Samir Nasri, Karim Benzema, Frank Ribery or even Nicolas Anelka, France has found it tough to impose their authority against teams like Romania and most astonishingly Austria.
Les Bleus will go into the first part of their double header against Lithuania with the “do or die” factor in mind if they are to avoid any fear of losing out on a place in the finals – which will turn out as one of the biggest upset in modern football.
France are struggling to reach the height they once set back in 1998 and during the early years of this 21st century. A poor form throughout the Euros in Switzerland and Austria didn’t help them at all as they exited from the group stage. And since, Les Bleus haven’t managed to up their form on a consistent basis.
Time seems to run out on them like the waves of a sea; Raymond Domenech’s French boys are already facing the crucial stages of their qualification campaign.
A stunning 3-1 defeat in Vienna in their opening game unsettled the French national team more than ever. France lie 4thin their group with one game in hand though like Romania, and five points behind Lithuania who surprisingly seat in second place. Questions have not stopped flowing over the manager’s ability and commitment, but it doesn’t seem the least like Domenech is feeling the pressure.
Captain Viera out again
Les Bleus will have to do without Patrick Viera one more time; the skipper has appeared only once in the country’s last 14 games.
"I was frank with him. He knows he is not at his best and that his level is not high enough to allow him to play for France," Domenech explained, speaking to reporters.
"That is why Patrick is not available for now - I insist for now - and I regret that,"
"He plays at a club where there is stiff competition between midfielders, where he struggles to get his position back," the France Coach concluded.
Otherwise, there’ll be a new face in the French national team under the name of Andre-Pierre Gignac also Ligue 1’s top scorer. The 23-year-old Toulouse striker has scored 17 goals for his club in the league and his inclusion in the national team could be vital.
Les Bleus will definitely want nothing else but a victory and with Barcelona’s Thierry Henry looking to be in a good form recently, there’s a reason for opponents Lithuania to feel the fright.
Prediction: France to win
