Team NewsAdam Lallana is out of this one for Southampton. Nathaniel Clyne is doubtful after missing the draws against Stoke and Arsenal due to a knee injury. Petr Cech, Oriel Romeu and John Terry are all definitely out of this one for Chelsea. A return date hasn’t been set for Yossi Benayoun yet.
Southampton’s draw against Arsenal took them out of the relegation zone. Southampton played eye-catching football in both their previous matches (against Arsenal and Stoke) even though they both finished in draws. They lost a lead in both those matches. They were the better side against Arsenal and will feel aggrieved that a potentially match winning goal from Gaston Ramirez was dubiously ruled out by the referee.
Chelsea will have to beware of Rickie Lambert along with the aforementioned Ramirez. However, the Southampton backline is quite leaky. In the Premier League alone, they have conceded 38 goals already. Chelsea’s players won’t be in a forgiving mood following a shock defeat to QPR. Until then, Chelsea had had a good run of results. Southampton has a chance as long as Artur Boruc and the other members of the back-line have steady games.
