Team NewsPlenty of players including a trio from Bayern withdrew from the Germany squad. Bastian Schweinsteiger and Toni Kroos have been ruled out due to infections. The Bayern central defender, Jerome Boateng, is out with a hamstring problem and will not been seen on the pitch for at-least the next two weeks. Marcel Schmelzer, the Dortmund left-back, has also been ruled out due to a bruised ankle.
Miroslav Klose withdrew as well. Sami Khedira and Mesut Özil, the Real Madrid duo, won’t play any part either. Sebastian Jung, Lewis Holtby and Sven Bender have been called up to partly replace the absentees. Roman Neustadter has also received a well deserved call up. Rene Adler meanwhile has returned to the national side following an impressive start to his HSV career.
Meanwhile, Louis Van Gaal dropped Douglas, Daley Blind, Jordy Clasie, Gregory van der Wiel, Adam Maher and Bas Dost from his provisional squad for the Netherlands. Robin Van Persie was ruled out with injury from the final squad. Van Gaal opted not to call up Inter midfielder Wesley Sneijder. Kevin Strootman and Maarten Stekelenburg are not fully fit and have not been included either.
Louis Van Gaal’s teams generally play possession-based football with plenty of flair. They tend to be a bit vulnerable defensively. Van Gaal discovered some of the Bayern players Joachim Löw uses regularly in his German squad now. Van Gaal will look to out-pass Germany and win.
Germany meanwhile showed just how vulnerable they can be when Sweden smashed four past them. Manuel Neuer made some rather uncharacteristic errors in that game. Löw will perhaps try out Neustadter in defensive midfield. Thomas Müller or Lukas Podolski will perhaps start as the lone front-man due to Miro Klose’s absence.
The game will be a free-flowing and open one. Tempers might flare from time to time too. The dangerous Arjen Robben as well as the ‘hunter’, Klaas Jan Huntelaar will look to grab goals against a German defence which has looked nervy in the past couple of games. On the other hand, the likes of Mario Götze and Marco Reus will be looking to put a few into the Dutch goal too.
