Real Madrid are not where they wished they would be before the Christmas break in Spain. With 11 points off the pace, they must beat Espanyol at all cost and hope Barcelona drop points at home to Atletico Madrid in Sunday’s very last La Liga fixture.

At the Santiago Bernabeu, Los Blancos have been just as good as their Blaugrana rivals with six wins and one draw in seven matches. What has cost Jose Mourinho and his men dearly is their form away from home.
